In a planted aquarium, the level of dissolved CO2 is mathematically related to pH and Carbonate Hardness (KH). By measuring pH and KH, you can determine if you have enough CO2 for plants (typically 15-30 ppm) or if levels are toxic to fish (>30 ppm). NOTE: This assumes pH is only lowered by CO2, not peat or humic acids.
