If ABI > 1.4, the arteries are non-compressible. Consider Toe-Brachial Index (TBI).
About this calculator
Overview
The Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) is a quick, non-invasive way to check for peripheral artery disease (PAD). The test compares the blood pressure measured at your ankle with the blood pressure measured at your arm. A low ABI can indicate narrowing or blockage of the arteries in your legs.
💡
Pro Tips
Patients should rest in a supine position for at least 10 minutes before measurement.
Use a Doppler probe if manual pulses are difficult to hear.
Ensure the blood pressure cuff is the correct size for both arm and ankle.

Fun Facts
"Normal ABI is typically between 1.0 and 1.4."
"ABI values below 0.9 are highly sensitive and specific for PAD."
"Stiff, calcified vessels (common in diabetes) can cause falsely high readings (> 1.4)."
"Patients with borderline ABI may require an exercise ABI test."
Formula: ABI = Highest Systolic Ankle Pressure / Highest Systolic Arm Pressure (for each side).
