Overview

Similar to calcium, a portion of magnesium in the blood is bound to albumin. In patients with hypoalbuminemia (low albumin), the total measured magnesium level may be falsely low while the active, ionized magnesium remains normal. This tool provides an estimate of the 'true' magnesium level.
