About this calculator

Overview

Hamming codes detect and correct single-bit errors in data transmission. Used in RAM, satellite communication, and data storage. Adds parity bits at positions that are powers of 2.

Hamming(7,4) encodes 4 data bits into 7 bits.
Even parity: total 1s in covered positions is even.
Syndrome identifies error position for correction.
Cannot correct double-bit errors.
