About this calculator
Overview
Symmetry is the most important factor in a professional wainscoting installation. The challenge lies in distributing the vertical 'stiles' (trim pieces) so that every decorative panel is exactly the same width. This calculator subtracts the combined width of all vertical stiles from the wall length and divides the remainder equally among your panels.

Pro Tips
In metric regions, 90mm is a common width for MDF stiles, which is very close to the standard US 3.5-inch width.
If your panel width comes out too narrow (less than 12 inches), consider reducing the panel count by one for a cleaner look.
Remember to account for corner baseboard depth if you are running the stiles all the way to a corner.
