Metacam (Meloxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Unlike older drugs, it is 'COX-2 preferential', meaning it targets the enzymes causing pain while largely sparing the enzymes that protect the stomach lining. The protocol starts with a higher 'Loading Dose' (0.2 mg/kg) on Day 1, followed by a 'Maintenance Dose' (0.1 mg/kg) for subsequent days.
