In carpentry, specifically for roof rafters and knee braces, the cut angle is determined by the ratio of vertical rise to horizontal run. This ratio is often expressed as a 'pitch' (e.g., 4:12). Correct angles ensure tight joints and structural stability. This tool provides both the main cut angle and its complement (the angle needed from the other side of the square).

Always mark the 'long side' and 'short side' of your cut to avoid flipping the board incorrectly.
If you're using a miter saw, remember that 0° on the saw is usually perpendicular to the fence (a 90° cut).
