About this calculator

Overview

The Child-Pugh score is used to assess the prognosis of chronic liver disease, mainly cirrhosis. It was originally used to predict mortality during surgery, but is now used to determine the prognosis, as well as the required strength of treatment and the necessity of liver transplant.

Pro Tips

Ascites is graded based on clinical or ultrasound detection and responsiveness to diuretics.
Encephalopathy grading: Grade 1-2 (mild confusion, sleep inversion) vs Grade 3-4 (stupor, coma).
Correct low albumin or high INR before some surgical procedures to improve the score.
