Pro Tips
What is the TSP?: The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a tax-advantaged retirement savings and investment plan for Federal employees and members of the uniformed services.
How does the matching work?: For FERS employees, the government contributes 1% of base pay automatically. They then match your contributions dollar-for-dollar on the first 3%, and 50 cents on the dollar for the next 2%. The max match is 5%.
What is the difference between CSRS and FERS?: CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) employees generally do not receive government matching contributions to their TSP. FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) employees do receive the full 5% match.
