Dolbear's Law describes the relationship between the air temperature and the rate at which crickets chirp. The formula was published by Amos Dolbear in 1897. It is surprisingly accurate for the snowy tree cricket, though other species vary. Note that crickets usually stop chirping when the temperature falls below 55°F (13°C) or rises above 100°F (38°C).
