The maximum height of a projectile is the highest vertical point reached during its flight. It occurs when the vertical component of the velocity becomes zero.

Pro Tips
Maximum height is achieved when the launch angle is 90° (straight up).
For a fixed velocity, launching at 45° gives maximum range, but not maximum height.
The formula assumes no air resistance and a level landing surface.
