Overview
Recoil is the backward movement of a gun when it is discharged. This calculator uses the law of conservation of momentum to estimate the recoil energy 'felt' by the shooter (Free Recoil).

Heavier guns generally have less felt recoil for the same cartridge.
Higher muzzle velocity and heavier bullets increase recoil.
